Jamawar

Jamawar shawls and stoles are characterized by dense embroidery or weaving, often covering 80–90% of the fabric surface. That’s what makes them so opulent and heavy in visual impact. Historically, Jamawar pieces were woven (not embroidered) with intricate motifs, but in contemporary usage, the term often refers to shawls where embroidery dominates the fabric, leaving very little plain ground visible. Authentic Jamawar shawls are rare because of the time-intensive hand embroidery.

Jaaldar

Jaaldar shawls and stoles are embroidered across the entire fabric surface, but the coverage is more airy and interconnected, not densely packed. The jaal creates a continuous lattice or vine-like spread, so while the whole fabric is ornamented, there’s still breathing space between motifs. This makes jaaldar pieces lighter in visual weight.

hashidar

Hashidaar shawls are Kashmiri pashmina pieces where the embroidery is concentrated along the borders and edges, framing the fabric while leaving the central field largely plain to showcase the natural beauty of the pashmina. The word Hashidaar means “having borders” in Kashmiri. These shawls feature mostly Sozni embroidery (fine needlework) along the four sides, sometimes with corner motifs, but the middle remains uncluttered. This creates a balance between minimalist sophistication and traditional craftsmanship.
